π©Ί π¨βπ©βπ¦ Skinminimalism
I'm a big fan of multi-tasking products, which contain multiple effective ingredients and rich formulations to target my skin concerns. As a busy mum, a doctor, and a clinic owner, I need products that are effective and easy to use, and I prefer fewer steps. That's why I love @Synergieskin serums (watch for new developments in 2023).
#Skinminimisation is the use of professional quality products that are high in potency ingredients that are designed to give you the best possible results for your skin and to minimise the number of products you use. Our experienced skin care professionals at Thrive Skin Clinic will help you achieve that with a skin consultation.
If you haven't already, you should take a closer look at the @skinbetterscience corrective serums, especially the Alpharet Serum as a night cream, the Even Tone Correcting Serum for pigment, and the Interfuse peptides for ageing.
βοΈ π¦ Skin Barrier Health
Why is Skin Barrier Health Important?
Our skin barrier is a living blanket of cells that is constantly replenished. It not only provides a physical layer of protection, keeping environmental toxins out and locking moisture in, it also modulates our immune function and assists in metabolic detoxification. A healthy skin barrier keeps skin hydrated, smooth, and supple, leaving your skin less prone to sensitivity and irritation.
Taking care of our skin barrier is a crucial component of maintaining a healthy glow and preventing breakouts, ageing and inflammation. If you are new to skin care - start with a high percentage of Vitamin B (niacinamide) and physical suncream to nurture your skin barrier.
Using high performing niacinamide (Vitamin B) serums (e.g. #SynergieSkin Priority B, which contains 22% low irritant niacinamide) followed by a tinted sunscreen such as #SynergieSkin Uberzinc would be beneficial.
If you want to wear makeup to improve complexion - use a face friendly #SynergieSkin Mineralwhip instead of foundation to prevent UV damage and sunburn. Any skin type can benefit from this gentle combination.
π± Peptides
What are peptides and how do they benefit the skin?
Peptides offer a non irritating option to boost collagen and moisture levels in the skin, improving skin firmness, smoothing wrinkles and correcting age-related damage.
Peptides are indicated for those wanting to address or prevent symptoms of ageing, and are especially useful for those with sensitive skin prone to rosacea, eczema or perioral dermatitis, as well as suitable for delicate skin (such as the eyes, neck and decolletage).
This year I have fallen in love with the Interfuse Skin Better Science range so much that I want to convert you in 2023!
π₯ Low Downtime Laser Facials
I think you all know, I'm a huge fan of multiple modality treatments that target the structure and function of skin and multiple concerns in one visit. For all the reasons above in "skinminimalism", it just makes sense to combine things. It also saves you time and money.
While I have literally worked for years honing my protocols for ageing, redness, pigmentation, acne, scarring and impaired skin barrier, I'm always changing and adapting my protocols with new treatments and combinations. Expect some exciting combinations of advanced dermal therapy in the near future.
π Injectable Bioremodelling Agents
If you want next level hydration and a product that works to prevent lines and wrinkles, consider injectable Bioremodelling agents as your next step. Bioremodelling agents contain hyaluronic acid, a natural gel that draws in water, resulting in deep skin hydration. They also nurture the skin, activating your skin cells to work more effectively and optimising the metabolic health of every cell in your skin - this is their secret weapon for age prevention!
What are Injectable Bioremodelling agents?
Bioremodelling injections are low risk, relatively quick and painless and can be done in combination with your other laser or injectable treatments. This type of treatment results in glowing skin, subtle improvements in skin texture, sun damage and fine lines, preventing lower face and neck ageing without changing the structure of your face.
Personally, my skin has loved this treatment (which launched in Australia last year) for my face, neck and decolletage, and I would recommend adding it into your skin routine every 3-4 months along with your preventative anti wrinkle sprinkle. If you are in your 40s, or perimenopausal, this is my number one skin tip, as it can help to combat the lack of oestrogen in our skin that comes with the hormonal transition or menopause.
π Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
I am seeing more young patients in their 30s and 40s who seek out my advice in order to look at evidence based, and more natural options to prevent ageing. The trend of fake looking big lips and puffy faces is (hopefully) diminishing, and many of these patients are asking me to dissolve their fillers. This trend is a huge hit with me!
As a medical doctor the message is - if you want to age well, you must start early, before you have significant changes in your skin. You can never truly reverse lines and wrinkles. The best intervention is prevention. A huge advocate of using Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) in this age group to keep skin healthy.
What are the benefits of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments?
The benefits of PRP are multiple - it is a natural treatment, sources from your own blood that can be used anywhere on the face, restoring and rejuvenating ALL the cells in your face, hence it results in global improvement to the skin including increased collagen production and skin strength, increased fat stores (supporting natural volume in the face), reduced inflammation (less redness and pigmentation) and improvements in skin texture.
Personally, I am in favour of using PRP in the under eye region INSTEAD of dermal filler and I love to combine PRP with Tixel, microneedling and lasers for those who wish to avoid anti-wrinkle treatments or dermal fillers in the long term. Of course, PRP is only as good as your growth factors, so supporting you to lead a healthy lifestyle and checking out your metabolic health is also part of my treatment plan.
π Injectable Biostimulator Agents AKA Collagen Stimulators
The more I learn about ageing, the more confused I get about why people focus on HA fillers so much. While HA fillers have their place (restoring and maintaining facial volume) this is definitely not the whole story when it comes to natural facial rejuvenation! Instead of just focusing on volume, our focus should be on restoring collagen and elastin levels in the skin.
I have recently started using PLLA and a hybrid dermal filler/collagen stimulator in my practice, and I am thrilled to be offering this in 2023. Collagen stimulating have a lot of benefits because not only do they target age related volume loss, they also improve skin quality, skin laxity, provide a natural and gradual improvement and offer superior longevity (these treatments last over two years).
They do have risks though - so you must come in and have a consultation before we decide to treat. I'm very conservative and I prefer to be safe and slow rather than overtreat.
πΏ Hormonal & metabolic support for skin health
As you might have guessed from my posts over the last few months, I am getting a lot more time to read and develop my own protocols combining hormonal and metabolic health with my dermal therapy programs. This is a fascinating and evolving area in medicine, and I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to integrate my love of science with skin and healthy ageing.
Metabolic health is the new frontier in aesthetics and as a medical doctor with a science degree, this is my area of expertise and passion! There is no question that I would prefer to prevent disease and engage you all in living a healthy lifestyle rather than to have a six-minute consultation and then give you a script.
I do have some exciting things in the pipeline, which I will share with you over the next few months.
The take home message is this: if you want good skin and to age well, consider your diet, lifestyle, stress, and sleeping habits. The great news is that you will improve both your general health and longevity as a result.
eat less
sleep more
stress less
get engaged in your health and feel good
