Go To Skin Travel Companions for Glowing Skin
#5 Tips for ‘Glowing’ Holiday Skin Care
I always tone DOWN my skin care when I am away, and focus on nourishing and hydrating the skin. This is because travel is almost always associated with environmental and lifestyle stressors like changes in humidity (think air travel) dry skin), increases in sun exposure (long days at the beach or in the sun), alcohol consumption (dehydration and toxins) and changes in your diet.
To combat these issues - you need to focus on skin protection (SPF), hydration (moisturisers and hyaluronic acid) and nurturing the skin (peptides - my new favourite active ingredient in skin care).
My Go To Skin Travel Companions
🌿 1. It’s important to weigh up clinical efficacy and luggage space - portable skin kits are great!
You cannot go past the Synergie skin kits for great value and amazing products:
- Anti Redness Kit if you have sensitive or red skin.
- Anti Ageing Kit if you have normal or thicker skin.
Both kits contain a gentle cleanser which can also work to remove makeup (bring a cotton round or cloth with you), ÜberZinc, my all time favourite SPF moisturiser.
I would advise all skin types to use Vitamin B (niacinamide) twice a day during a trip (it will help nurture your skin barrier) and anyone who is in the sun to use a non acidic Vitamin C / antioxidant in the AM.
🌿 2. PEPTIDES - for all over skin glow and hydration
Honestly, I just can’t get enough of the Interfuse Face and Neck by Skin Better Science.
I have been using retinoids less and peptides more as my skin adapts to perimenopause. Use it anywhere on the face and neck, including under the eyes, as the first product on your skin. Moreover, it also doubles as a moisturiser.
🌿 3. Home Mask for Hydration
I will be honest and say - I use my own Hyaluronic and peptide mask! I compounded this as part of my Diploma is Cosmetic Medicine studies, as I was finding so many people using rubbish masks. We make this up in clinic every 3 months so we can guarantee what it is made of, and that it is active and not, well, filled with rubbish ingredients.
It is composed of active peptides and Hyaluronic acid and leaves your skin plump and glowing. Use it daily if you need (e.g. if hungover, dehydrated from a flight), and once a week for maintenance. It is a bit stingy if you have sunburn do use a HA only product if you are prone to burn.
🌿 4. Eye Serum
When I travel, I also change my eye serum. I used Eye Doctor by Cosmedix recently when I was travelling to the UK and was really impressed with the hydration this formulation can achieve. Not to mention how incredible it looks on the skin - It is like a unicorn in a bottle.
TIP: you only need a TINY amount (think a rice grain) so it lasts longer.
🌿 5. LED at home mask to optimise your cellular function
Recently we have the new Omnilux masks in stock - I have many clients who travel who take these masks with them wherever they go and swear by them. I can't wait to use mine!
This is an expensive option however if you want to treat yourself, (or be treated - share and send them this post), especially if you travel frequently, consider the Omnilux which is the most researched /evidence (FDA and TGA cleared) based home mask available on the market.
