Acne Scarring

Acne Scarring often begins in adolescence but can leave life long scars, causing social anxiety and self consciousness.

Luckily, a multimodal approach to acne scarring can provide significant improvement, improving the texture & colour of the skin.

Before scars can be addressed, acne must firstly be managed with medical therapy such as prescription retinols, a short course of antibiotics or in severe cases with an oral Vitamin A medication (Isotretinoin).

If you suffer from hormonal acne, we advise a hormonal and metabolic screen to exclude underlying causes for your acne, as well as treatment with lifestyle and hormonal treatment interventions. If you have cysts, body acne or your acne has not improved with standard medical therapy after 3 months, would generally advise you to consider the oral medication as the best treatment for scarring is prevention

Multi-modal treatments for acne include a treatment plan directed at improving the sebaceous function of the skin, improving the skin barrier, reducing inflammation and stimulating collagen to improve the healing response. This may involve HydraFacial or peels to restore healthy skin function, a series of microneedling sessions with Exosomes, designed to repair inflammation or vascular or Q switch lasers to reduce red or brown pigmentation and then an ablative lasers to resurface the skin.

We offer a 12 week customsied plan to plan to get control of your acne under control, starting with a medical consultation and curating a unique plan based on the type of scarring you have. For those wanting to look to the root cause of acne, or for those wanting to avoiudf medications, Dr Bhatti offers the GEMM protocol address underlying causes of acne, such gut dysbiosis and hormonal imbalances

Once acne has cleared, we then use Ultraclear ablative laser to resurface the skin. Ultraclear Cold Fibre Laser offer innovative technology, allowing us to treat scarring powerful resurfacing, limited discomfort and downtime and the option of treating all skin types. Ultraclear offers an incredible advantage for those with darker skin types such as Asian, Indian or Mediterranean skin, as it vastly reduces post inflammatory inflammation compared to traditional ablative lasers.

PRP and Rejuran polynucleotides can also be used to combat acne and scarring for patients who would like non medications options to manage acne. They can also be used after ablative laser resurfacing to reduce inflammation and promote wound healing, reducing downtime post laser treatment.

If you are concerned with acne scarring, we would advise you to book a consultation with a doctor to discuss your concerns as early as you can, as earlier intervention leads to faster resolution of scarring and better clinical outcomes.

With the advent of ablative laser such as Ultraclear, acne scarring is now able to be treated with good outcomes, even if you have darker skin
