" Injectable Moisturisers" - why I use BioRemodelling agents to prevent & manage ageing skin concerns as well as infammatory skin conditions (NB: I’m not paid by them/sponsored and not a “KOL”)

Bioremodelling agents, often referred to as "Injectable Moisturisers," have been available in Australia for nearly two years now. Now the hype has died down, I continue to be impressed and incorporate them into my practice daily. Read on to discover how my use of these products has evolved, why I use these agents so frequently, and who stands to benefit the most from integrating them into a long-term skincare regimen.

Bio- remodelling agents are the ultimate injectable anti- ageing product and they are on my radar for every patient I see for this reason.
— Dr Jemima Grant

What exactly are Bioremodelling agents? These are composed of both cross-linked and non cross-linked Hyaluronic Acid (HA), employing the patented NAHYCO technology. They contain a high concentration of Hyaluronic acid, which provide deep hydration to the skin, enhancing skin radiance and fortifying the skin barrier. This, in turn, reduces skin inflammation and acting as a long term anti oxidant in the skin. The reason why this is important for ageing (relevant to every human) is that on a cellular level, ageing involves a long term slow "rusting", or oxidation, of intracellular machinery. This is why doctors and skin expert advocate using suncream (which block UV light, that oxidizes the skin), and topical Vitamin C/ antioxidants on thje skin (to reverse or prevent skin oxidation). This is why I love BioRemodelling agents- they are an injected form of antioxidant (they don't just hydrate)- and why I think everyone with ageing skin concerns, or with skin inflammation, should use them

How to Bioremodelling Agents work? For those interested in the scientific details, this NAHYCO technology allows the product to be manufactured and stabilized without using chemical cross-linking agents. This enables it to spread over a larger area, effectively rejuvenating the skin. Consequently, the injection technique requires only a few specific points on the face. For patients, this translates to less pain and bruising, although we still recommend applying a topical local anesthetic before treatment for added comfort. It also appeals to patients wanting "cleaner" products, with less side effects- concerns I am seeing more in my clinic over the last few years.

Once injected, the Bioremodelling agents work as a slow-releasing hyaluronic acid treatment works by stimulating your cells to work bettter, and in tern increasing essential cellular proteins such as collagen and elastin. Over time, this enhances skin strength and elasticity, reducing skin sagging, all while preserving your natural facial structure without adding excessive volume. The impact is subtle. But, again there are plenty of patients out there that are interested in subtle, low risk products that have a long term gain. You are never to old or young to have beautiful glowing skin!

How do Bioremodelling agents differ from traditional products that "fill the skin"? Bioremodelling agents are considered a hybrid product—a blend between a skin booster and a filling injection. Although all these products are composed of hyaluronic acid, traditional fillers work to plump lines and add volume to the face, altering facial structure and support. In contrast, Bioremodelling agents and skin boosters primarily hydrate the skin and improve its quality without altering the facial structure. Bioremodelling agents just go one step furtherr. Due to the high dosage and unique mix of hyaluronic acid components, Bioremodelling agents create a unique metabolic environment in the skin, promotes healthy cellular activity and encouraging the growth of healthy cells in every layer they touch—superficial and deep skin cells, ligaments, fat, and even bone. Your own skin, working better.

This innovative treatment allows me to address the root causes of skin aging by enhancing the quality of skin components like collagen and elastin, and by improving the structures that support skin cells. This results in a healthier overall system, rather than just addressing visible symptoms.

Who is the Ideal Candidate for BioRemodelling Agents? Anyone can benefit from Bioremodelling agents, especially those new to injectable treatments who want to focus on maintaining healthy skin or patients that feel apprehensive about starting treatments.

They work best/have more visible results in patients aged 30 and 65 who are seeking a subtle and natural method for preventing aging, addressing mild laxity, and improving hydration and radiance. If you have dry skin, e.g. atopic eczema or dermatitis, if you are prone to perioral dermatitis - I recommend them for any age over 18!

I routinely recommend them for women who consult me with perimenopusal skin concerns, or women who are on hormones blocking medications for cancer. We know these women will experience an increase in skin dryness, laxity and barrier impairment secondary to oestrogen deficiency and Bioremodelling agents are a relatively simple and cost effective approach to combat and prevent these concerns.

Why I use them Bioremodelling agents to adress chronic inflammatory skin conditions: Having used these products for two years now, and having discussed their with some of the top Cosmetic Dermatologists and Aesthetic Physicians around the world, I now use Bio Remodelling agents as part of my treatment plan to address chronic inflammatory skin conditions, specifically rosacea, melasma, and acne (especialy acne with barrier impairment) or traumatic scarring. We are now learning that skin hydration and barrier function is essential to maintain healthy skin, especially where there is accelerated inflammation.

How I combine them with Lasers and Energy Based Devices: I now also recommend Bio Remodelling agents as the first step before an a series of laser treatment for ageing skin, such as Q switch laser or an ablative laser treatment, as I find this expedites healing and reduces post procedural redness. It works especially well in combination with the 3D Miracl laser, which provides a low downtime superficial peel for this reason. Patients notice less discomfort during laser and IPL, but also an improvement in their skin recovery post laser. It also helps my Millennial patients to obtain “glass skin” , a trend that is very popular these days (again, who doesn’t want that!). I also continue to combine Bioremodelling agents with Ultraformer and Lasers to treat for sun-damaged areas on the neck and décolletage (great combination - based on my personal experience!).

How many treatments are necessary? Typically, the initial course includes two sessions spaced four weeks apart. Occasionally, a patient may be advised to complete three treatments depending on their assessment and medical history. I recommend 2-3 treatments per year as a long term plan, which can be combined wiht most of the other procedures, peels and lasers we perform in out clinic.

How do I book? BioRemodelling agents are a medical product, so you need to book a consultation with one of our Cosmetic registered Nurses or Aesthetic Doctors prior to having your treatments. Treat, ment is fairly quick and it cane be done on the same day as a consultation. As aesthetic treatments go, there are limited risks but you should expect to have little lumps on the face for a day or so, and bruising is possible. It does sting a bit but its over quickly, after which you settle in under our relaxing Healite for some skin R & R.

Book in for a consultation with Dr Grant or Registered Nurses, and enjoy our Introductory package of 2 sessions and a moisturiser to use for home- we believe in this product so much and want everyone to enjoy the benefits of healthy glowing skin.
