The Lowdown on PDO Monothreads

#Skintips with Dr Jemima Grant

🌿 PDO monothreads are officially here, and we are ready for your Q and A! 🌿

🌿 What are PDO monothreads?

✨ PDO monothreads are tiny strings, smaller than a human hair, that are placed into the skin to induce collagen and produce skin tightening.

🌿 What is PDO?

✨ PDO is the same material Iy week to stitch up wounds and skin biopsies- it's been used for decades and has a very positive safety profile.

🌿 How do threads work?

✨ The threads are made of suture material and are inserted in a mesh pattern to support skin. After injection in to the skin, the PDO incites an immune response, resulting collagen deposition over the thread mesh. The threads then slowly broken down by the body naturally over a 3-6 month period.

🌿 What can Threads do?

✨ The PDO monothreads improve the integrity of skin. They can improve crepey thin skin and through this action, can also improve the improve the contour of the face, and tighten the skin.

🌿 Do PDO monothreads Lift?

✨ No. Lifting threads involve a much more invasive procedure, involving strong threads with cog inserted into the skin and pulled tightly to lift the skin. PDO threads do not do this.

🌿 What are the best areas to treat with Threads?

✨ Threads have various uses- they can be used to improve "lines in the skin" or areas of volume loss such as the marionette lines , upper lip lines, accordion lines of the lower face and neck lines. They can also be used as a matrix of of threads to induce skin tightening and improve contour such as the whole neck, jawline /under the chin or lower face to improve lax skin.

🌿 Who is suitable for threads?

✨ Anyone with skin can benefit from a thread treatment- men, women, young people wanting to prevent ageing skin, and older clients with established signs of ageing. Unfortunately we are ageing every day, but PDO monothread placement is a relatively low risk way to increase the collagen in our skin and combat these changes.

✨ PDO Threads are a good option for people who want to "age gracefully".

🌿 Who is not suitable for threads?

✨Those with very thin skin, or very lax skin will not be good candidates.

🌿 Does it hurt?

✨ Yes it does hurt a bit, however we use our own compounded local anaesthetic for 30 minutes prior and distraction techniques. Most people find it quote comfortable.

🌿 Is there downtime post threads?

✨ YES you should tenderness, bruising and swelling. Things settle after a few days but bruising can last for a week or so. We have a new post treatment foundation that can cover bruising and be worn immediately- ask us for more details!

🌿 We’re up for the journey if you are 🌿
