A personalised approach to Rosacea & Skin Redness Not all redness is rosacea, and not all rosacea is the same. The old fashioned way of characterising rosacea in to subtypes has been replace, with personalise, symptom based management:

Symptom Based Rosacea Management:

  • Flushing: Lifestyle (avoidance of certain foods, alcohol, stress reduction) , mirvaso propanalol, carvedilol. Topical neurotoxinx can help.

  • Sensitivity: topical Niacinamide gentle moisturisers- avoid added alcohol, fragrances and hard exfoliants.

  • Papules: topical ivermectin, oral doxycycline or minocycline, oral isotretinoin for recalcitrant disease.

  • Redness: IPL and vascular lasers to reduce redness, combined with exosomes to address vascular inflammation. We recommend an intensive phase of 4 sessions followed by one ever 3 months to maintain concerns.

  • Sundamage and oxidative stress: rosacea symptoms such as redness is especially common in caucasian patients with sun damaged skin- both men and women suffer from this. The combination of a medical grade retinol and IPL/vascular laser works well in these patients, who tend to have thicker less sensitive skin.

  • Hormonal Flares: Rosacea flares with excess oestrogen, and is common in perimenopuase. Managing your gut biome so it can effectively process oestrogen and reduce systemic inflammation is important- aim for fibre 25 - 35g a day, and reduce processed food and alcohol. Consider a supplement like DIM supplement if you suffer from oestrogen dominance. Manage perimenopause.

  • Phymatous changes: long term inflammation can cause dermal swelling and enlargement of tissue, notably the nose region. The best approach for this is Ablative Laser combined with isotretinoin.

What is a Multimodal Approach to Vascular Skin Concerns? Thrive's rosacea and redness protocols combine vascular laser treatments with lifestyle, medication, medical grade home care and treatments to improve skin hydration, inflammation, hormonal balance and barrier function. This holistic approach improves long term outcomes.

Maintenance treatments are often required as rosacea and vascular disorders are often chronic conditions. This sophisticated approach means that you are more likely to get a long term improvement in your condition.

The underlying principle of all rosacea is that it is inflammatory as opposed to a solely infective pathway, and that not all rosacea is the same.

Vascular Laser for Red Skin and Rosacea Because no ones skin is the same, we will recommend a different approach depending on your skin concerns.

Lasers reduce rosacea, skin redness, treat sun damaged skin and can improve skin inflammation and sensitivity. We use a variety of state-of-the-art laser systems and devices and approaches to manage skin redness including Excel V vascular laser , Xeo IPL (intense Pulsed Light), Laser Genesis, Ultraclear Laser, and LED Healite to address red skin.

The Excel V Vascular laser from Cutera offers a dual wavelength platform to target redness, 532nm for superficial vessels, and 1065 nm to target deeper vascular structures and dermal inflammation. We also utilise IPL (intense Pulsed Light) and UltraClear laser to manage sun damage and build skin integrity.

Corrective peels and exosomes also improve the underlying dermal inflammation seen in rosacea and skin barrier impairment. Once the inflammation has settled, we then work on improving the skin strength with collagen induction using Tixel or Ultraclear laser.

What is the recommended treatment plan ? Before starting treatment you will need a consultation, test patch and education. Our team will customise a treatment plan for your concerns. Expect an intensive treatment plan for the first 12 weeks, which may combine combines corrective peels, lasers and exosome treatment.  Ultraclear laser may then be utilised to improve underlying photodamaged skin and build up your skin integrity.

How do I prepare for laser procedure? Use SPF daily and avoid any irritating products such as Vitamin C, retinol of exfoliants for 3 dayds prior to your treatment. Do not use spray tan or expose the skin to the sun for tanning for 2- 3 weeks prior to, and during your series of vascular laser treatments.

What can I expect during a laser procedure?
Depending on the area and concern, vascular laser treatment may be mildly uncomfortable but is generally tolerated. The Excel V laser is much more comfortable than older vascular lasers such as Pulsed Dye lasers . Appointment length starts at 30 minutes.

What is the downtime for a laser procedure? Redness, swelling and a “sun burnt feeling” is common for the first few days. Brusing may occur. Blisters or wound formation is rare. Allow 2 weeks between treatments and upcoming social events. It is essential that sunscreen is worn and sun exposure avoided while undergoing treatment, and the aftercare instructions are followed carefully.

Cost At your initial consultation, our team will assess your concerns and provide an individualised treatment plan and quote. A medicare rebate may be available for clients who have vascular laser treatments to manage severe rosacea. Suitability for treatment and costs will be discussed during your consultation.
